I just bought my first Kart (used) and the gear, the trailer, and the accessories and I am suffering from “Wow, I sure spent a lot” and my cash flow is drying up and there is still more spending to be do (tires, race fees, travel). I don’t want to spring for the $100+ for Karting shoes just yet. Is there a cheaper alternative that’s safe and legal for racing?

Wrestling shoes are a good alternative. You can find a really cheap pair on ebay usually. I used wrestling shoes for several years early on in my career. They function similarly, with thin soles for good pedal feel and high tops for ankle protection.

TJ is correct! You can often find them on sale at Big5 Sporting goods as well.
