Some of you real old timers may remember J.D. Taylor of the KC karting scene in the mid 60s and early 70s.

    J.D. passed away yesterday, October 16, 2013.

Mike & I remember fondly loading up with the Taylors and anyone else that wanted to come along for a weekend of racing on the “cheap” in Jay & Virginia Hendon’s converted school bus. We were off to such far away places as Castle Rock, CO, Greenwood Raceway in IA, Meadowlands in IL, Green Valley in TX. Us gals would bake cookies and fry chicken ahead of leaving for the races for everyone to enjoy on Saturday night.  Very rarely did we have to pull a trailer; we could winch 5 or 6 karts up on top and off we went.  When we got back home on Sunday night, we’d figure up the expenses and divide it up.  The trip to Castle Rock proved especially costly because we had two blowouts and bought three used tires so we’d have a spare in case we had another.  We added in the extra $75 for the three tires.

J.D.  was also the father of KART MARRS’ Animal racer Mike Taylor.  Please keep Mike and his brothers Steve & Gary, along with Mom Sally, in your thoughts and prayers.

At this time there is no word of funeral arrangements.

    Keep on kartin'. llb
