Michigan Kart Club’s M.I.S. Fall Classic, Sept. 6 & 7  is a “can’t miss” event.  Two miles of smooth asphalt, including the infield road course, a meticulously maintained facility, on a race weekend that fits the national schedule quite nicely.  If top speed is what you’re after, this is the place.  Unlimited’s topped 146 MPH last year.   Garages available.  Pre-Entry discounts at http://michkartclub.com/2014-m-i-s-event/. Register Online.

Special Note: The M.I.S. Fall Classic is sanctioned by WKA, and follows WKA Rules with local option classes, and uses WKA Insurance.  This is not a WKA National Points race or Regional race.  We therefore require a Minors’ Release for Minor Drivers to be filled out, and signed at the Entry Gate, where pit passes are sold, and again at Race Registration. We understand that WKA membership cards indicate that a minor driver may have a waiver on file, but we cannot honor that card information at this event.
For your convenience, a copy of the waiver form is available on the MKC web site and may be printed out, IN COLOR, notarized, and be submitted by a minor at the track in case that minor’s parent or guardian is unable to attend the event.
If you have any further questions, please contact me.

    Thanks

    Bill,

Will we need a current WKA license?

If so, will MKC offer the “weekend pass”?

  • #29454

    Bill Anderson

No need for a WKA license.  The event is neither a National Points Race nor a Regional race.

Buy a pit pass, enter a class, pass safety tech, and you are ready.  We will follow the WKA rulebook for most classes when it comes to ages, weight, and engine specifications. There are local option classes based on kart combinations most racers are familiar with.

    Thanks Bill.

With the facility so close to home it is high on the priority list. Once again we should have our sponsor visiting and hope for good weather.

I know Kenny has already secured the garage and we are very much looking forward to MIS again this year!!!!!!!

    WOW….just looked at the schedule.

Gonna be tough to do back to back F-125 and Unltd. races both days.

Not sure I could do that when I was a kid, ehh…..but I am crazy enough to try it!!!!!

Talk about a high intensity weight loss plan! Oh boy….

In response to the request by the F125 guys to race twice on Saturday ( race in both F125 and Unlimited), the schedule has been readjusted so they don’t have to run back to back.

We will adjust Sunday schedule later if needed.

Check the MKC web site http://www.michkartclub.com for updated schedule information relative to this issue.

    Bill,

It’s evident you guys are working hard to get this event the proper attention. I got a flier in my parts box from CKS Saturday!!!!! :) Don at LAD said he has also been packing them in orders, good job from all involved in the effort to help get the proportionate numbers this facility deserves.

Hope to see a LARGE turn out this year!!!!!!

Just a quick tip for those looking in…..

Getting an “RV” spot with power and H2O is a great way to go, and its a good value for $20. Best part is its located to the far left of the designated area (see paddock map) and the push to pit lane is really not very far.

I’ll be in line early to get a good spot. ;)

Hard to understand the lack of “buzz” around this here on EKN.

This is a 2 mile oval, a Superspeedway!

Were fortunate to get this opportunity, anyone in the tri-state area (MI, OH, IN) should be making plans to attend. The rooftop view from the pit lane terrace is fantastic for spectating.

Were local, kinda, so its a bit different in our case but I’m trying to get as many friends and co workers to come out and just take it all in. Even told them I’d provide lunch if they buy a pass and spend an afternoon looking around. Got to get new folks involved people, it really is up to us to invest a few bucks for the future of our hobby. Hot dogs, chips & sodas are cheap and easy enough for anyone to spread out for some friends. Get um out there, show some hospitality, beat up their senses with speed and fumes, and they will talk about it all week. You may get lucky and find a new racin buddy and we all get the benefit of having more people involved!

In it’s 3rd year I hope we get a good size turnout, not just for the sake of the MKC but for all of us in this region that love to RR.

Looking forward to this event. I have had a great time the last 2 years and ran really well both times too. Unfortunately both times had silly things knock my out of the races while in front or near front, so hopefully things can stay together this year.

Robert, I agree that the lack of buzz on this event seems weird but there seems to be a general lack of buzz on EKN. There was hardly any posts on Mid Ohio and that was the WKA GN, but there was still a pretty good turn out. Not sure if EKN lost a lot of people when they switched formats or if people just aren’t posting. Hopefully lots of people show up and we have some big grids.

Right now weather looks good. But just in case will you guys run in rain at all?  Hopefully not something we need to worry about but just want to double check.

Also looks like we have to be in track by 7:00 pm on Friday. Is that true and if so is that an absolute hard cut off? We can probably get there by than but by the time we get kids out of school and drive up it will be close.  If it’s later than 7:00 than we will be fine if not we’ll figure out how to get there by than.

We will race on a wet/damp track.  No puddles, standing water, no rooster tails off tires.  We’ll adjust the schedule according to the weather which is common practice at most kart races.

Pit pass wrist bands will be for sale from 4 PM to 7 PM Friday night at US12 entrance and at that entrance from 7 am to 7 pm Saturday and 7am to 3 PM Sunday.  The gate staff may hold over for a few minutes on Friday if it looks like folks are still arriving.  The tunnel, (10 ft clearance) will be open all weekend for those having a pit pass.  No pit pass sales at the Tunnel entrance on Brooklyn Hwy.  There will be road signs pointing to correct entrances.  US12 entrance to paddock allows high profile vehicles to cross the racing surface so the gate entrance at that point when track is active will be limited.

    Couple questions…..

Will debit/credit cards be accepted at the Speedway? (pit passes, race fuel, entry, etc., etc.)

If a spectator comes out after noon (or at noon/12pm) on Saturday do they have to go to the US 12 gate for the pass then go to the tunnel to enter??

    Thanks guys,

What a great weekend of racing!

The storm Friday evening and forecast for Saturday may have keep some from attending but once again…..if you don’t come you won’t know!

The paddock was wet in the AM but the track dried very rapidly and the program started on time and ran without being condensed. The day got better and better weather wise and Sunday was beautiful!!!!

My races did not produce the results of the past 2 years but it was still a great way to spend my Anniversary with the Wife.

Thought the F-125 video was lost to an “unformatted” card but it was all there. WOW…..what an exciting handful of laps with Brian and Jeremy!!!!!! Using all the track surface, the curbs, and yes…..even the grass! You would have thought we were at the local rental kart track the way we went at each other. As happens in most cases, traffic was the factor that separated us….but THAT is what racing is about! Jeremy and I hurt our chance of closing up by fighting each other but…..THAT is racing too!!!! Trying too hard is very easy at this track, it “invites you” to try harder and convinces you that you can! Then you over shoot the infield, totally miss an apex, run into the grass or have to take an escape road and turn around…..take your pick…..everyone “listening” was doing it.

A broken pipe resulted in a DNF but it was the most satisfying failure I have ever encountered.

Thanks to a bunch of good friends we found a pipe that would fit the kart and got it all prepped, it wasn’t the right pipe but it did get us out in the last race and we did the best we could. THAT is also what racing is all about…..the friends coming together to help out. You guys are awesome, thanks so much for the help!!!!

Jeremy, always good to race with you. Your ambition behind the wheel is infectious and sometimes hilarious! :)

Brian, was good fun finally getting up to you….if only briefly! You make the rest of us want to work that much harder.

Thanks to both of you for the sportsmanship!

Anyone whom claims an Oval is no challenge has not tried this place. I hope this wasn’t the end of MIS. The turn out was not what we wanted to see. You had better try it, it will not disappoint!

Thanks MKC and volunteers for providing us the opportunity!

Bill Anderson, all volunteers, MIS, and MKC,

Thank you for providing a wonderful opportunity for karters to experience that rare and exciting combination of road course and speedway oval.     The organization was excellent, the facilities were wonderful and the racing was fast and fun.    Making it a two day event gave everyone plenty of practice and race time at a much lower cost in both time and money.   I trust that more karters will support or discover this marvelous venue and we can keep this gathering part of our racing schedule for a long time.

    Thanks again,

    The LinChris Race Team

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for coming.  Even though our crew had a few “rusty” spots to get over,  I think we all made it through the weekend with only a few glitches.

Thanks for racing safe.  No ambulance calls all weekend.

I think this year’s format that allows for 4 hours of practice on Saturday worked pretty well.  We tried to get guys grouped by speed, yet still allow guys who wanted to race as many as 4 classes to do so.  We wanted to allow you to get on the road and at least part way home before dark which is the reason for combining classes on Sunday.

There were 206 entries this year and the 2 day format allowed us to pay all the bills.

We’ve reserved September 19 & 20, 2015 to meet again for the M.I.S. Fall Classic.

I’ll send you an occasional email and post our progress on this forum to let you know how preparations are moving along.  If you have any nifty ideas for the next event, we’d like to hear them.  And, as usual, we can always use helpers to support the activity.  We were a bit short in a couple of places this year.

    Thanks again

Of all 3 Oval to Infield creations (cones) to date I preferred this one best.

We (f-125’s) could actually get through this one in 2nd gear!!!

Not impossible to pass there but a bit narrower which seemed to keep the dive-bombing to a minimum. With that said, I still blew through it at least once this year!!!! :)

With more volunteers, a second pick-up vehicle would be nice too. Keeping that extended practice moving quickly could result in another short round before the racing program gets started.

    Again, Bravo….had a great time!!!!!

Even though the storm on Friday tried to blow us and our tent away we still had a great time.

Brain and Robert that was an absolute blast on saturday. The three of us racing for the lead for the first 15 mins was really good fun. I’m thinking of patenting that off road passing maneuver:) Looking forward to seeing your vid Robert. I’ll upload mine to youtube soon and post the link here when I do.

Thanks to MKC for another fun event and looking forward to coming back again next year.

Big Thanks to MKC and everyone involved putting on MIS this past weekend, it was a great event!! If you weren’t there you missed a fantastic facility and good racing.

Robert and Jeremy it was great racing with you guys, and as Robert says hilarious too. Good clean racing with you guys. I don’t think in the first five laps I ever hit the same place on the track twice! You guys pushed me to get it figured out quick.

It was great meeting all the new folks, everyone was just super friendly. The ONLY thing I would change is to move the inside cones more inside to make the transition to the oval a little better.

Love and hate the onboard video…..

Love it, you can learn so much that you don’t remember when you step out of the kart.

Hate it, because it just doesn’t lie….the mistakes are undeniable!

This is a big help to me, my view doesn’t show how close (or far) my line was from the apex/curbing. Super cool to see the other view, priceless!

Your still killin me through that infield left but I’m pretty happy with the top speed of that stocker.

You Tube will only let me post 15 min of video so I’ll have to figure out how to edit it down.

Yeah I watch certain parts and am like wow I killed that corner.  And than you see other parts you were I say biffed that pretty bad. But it also allows you to to see my “on the grass crazy pass” again and again which is awesome.

Yeah my infield is pretty good but need some more top speed for sure. I got some ideas on things to try for next year. I know the wing hurts top speed some but lap time is always better with it on.

Your top speed is definitely pretty good. But Brain’s is just screaming.

YouTube always you to post over 15 mins if you verify your account. So you could try that.

It took 5 hours to upload to YouTube but it finally finished.

This is shot on an HD VIO cam, it takes super sharp video but for some reason it didn’t upload in that form. It’s clear & sharp from the file viewing on my PC. The disc’s and flashdrive copies also turned out very clear, so clear you can easily read the data.

Bummer it didn’t load in full effect. My Daytona video is longer yet and if it won’t upload in full HD I won’t bother. That was some good video and an insane first few laps!!!!

Robert vid is awesome. So cool to see another view.  It seemed like one time I would do okay on the straight and the next time you guys would pull away like crazy. I guess just weather I got on straight well or got any draft. Hope for more races like this in the future.

Quality looked good to me.  When you first post to YouTube it doesn’t give the HD quality option right away. It takes a few hours to give you the 1080p option.

      Johnny,

Here is a pic of my paddle shifter. It is an evolution of of one my dad created in the mid 80’s. Basic design is normal. Butterfly paddle hooked up to a push/pull cable.

But most guys have a rod that is as wide as the steering wheel that they take their fingers off wheel and pull with right hand to shift up and with left hand to shift down.

Ours is same idea but is much smaller so I can keep more of my hands on the wheel and just use my fingers to shift. I added the red plastic “button” so that during downshifts and braking when you are being thrown around pull with left finger and push with right thumb. This gives more control. Upshifting is just down with pull of fingers.

I have to be honest…..I certainly do not mind being visible in that rear shot!

BW, you were not that far off! The speed of that rig made it very hard to overcome the Oval distance you put on us.

Yea, driving with a sprag was by far the toughest thing to get used to for me.  I like the peace of mind just in case of you know what, but whew, did that make braking that much tougher.  Def think it would be faster without one.

    Noah,

take a look at that Daytona video. During that race I point out to the cam that the H2O is not right…..I start driving with my left hand on the clutch. It was a loose lead connection that becomes evident when it doesn’t blow-up!!! :)

I’ve been pretty lucky, have gone “for the ride” a few times but have caught it with the clutch more times than not.

As long as were not racing on street courses with concrete tunnels I guess it doesn’t concern me all that much. Every part of what we do is inherently dangerous. We accept that each time we get in the kart……hence my pausing to Pray!

Watched the Race Monitor from M-O, ya’ll were killin it there. Glad to see you have not been polluted by them-there-sit-up-type karts!!!!!!

Yup, Noah got it DONE at Mid-O. Very impressive.
FWIW, I feel like a sprag frees up the kart and makes it go thru the corners easier. I think I’d have a hard time converting back to driving without a sprag. Ya just gotta drive it like a clutch kart that you are mad at.
