The 2017 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SpringNationals will be one weekend to remember for Sebasitan Ng. The 10-year-old driver from the Central American country of Panama took part in his first SKUSA Pro Tour event on the season after missing the WinterNationals weekend in March. Sebastian joined his Nitro Kart team in Sonoma, California at the Simraceway Performance Karting Center, part of the Sonoma Raceway facility located on the side of Sears Point on May 5-7 for the third and fourth rounds of the SKUSA Pro Tour. The 2016 series race winner added to his win total, leaving Northern California with two more main event triumphs.

The competition level is high at the SKUSA Pro Tour, especially in the Micro division. Sebastian found himself 12th after qualifying to open up the Saturday round of the event with a mechanical issue. The Nitro Kart team put in the work prior to the Prefinal to make sure Sebastian’s machine was ready to go, and the results proved it. Sebastian drove up through the field, reaching the second position on the final lap to improve 10 positions while posting the fast lap of the race. Starting outside the front row, Sebastian was shuffled back to fourth at the opening circuit, holding his ground for much of the race and waiting for the perfect opportunity. The lead group began jostling for position in the closing laps, with Ng up to second with the white flag waving. Sebastian took advantage of the right opportunities, knifing his way into the lead and reaching the checkered flag for the victory.

Qualifying on Sunday was better from the day before, placing eighth in the session and off by four tenths of a second. Again, Sebastian was the driver on the move in the Prefinal working his way toward the front of the lead group, and missing out on the race win by 22 thousandths of a second at the line. The outside front row position was not the preferred starting position, as Sebastian fell down the order, dropping to as low as fifth. From there, the Nitro Kart driver found his way through the lead pack, and on the final circuit, secured the lead with a final corner maneuver to reach the checkered flag first.

“I am very proud of the job Sebastian had been doing behind the wheel this year for Nitro Kart,” stated Nick Tucker of Nitro Kart. “He has won the pole position at Florida Winter Tour, pole position and podium finishes at the WKA and USPKS events this year. To get the double wins at the biggest event of the year so far is phenomenal. We look for continued success with this young and talented driver throughout the rest of the year.”

The two wins added to his 2016 SummerNationals victory in New Castle make him the winningest driver in the Micro Swift division in SKUSA Pro Tour history. Sebastian will defend his two wins at the SpringNationals when the series heads back to New Castle on August 11-13. Up next on his schedule is the United States Pro Kart Series event at Pittsburgh International Race Complex on June 2-4 in both the Micro Swift and Yamaha Cadet divisions.
