A full field of rumbling spec Ignite LO206 karts will take the green flag this Labor Day weekend for the second annual Ignite Shootout at the 22nd edition of the Rock Island Grand Prix. After a successful inaugural event last September, the Ignite Shootout returns to ‘The Rock’ as the only spec class that will see the checkered flag. Margay’s spec Ignite formula has put the driver back into kart racing. Each entry will wheel a spec Margay Ignite K3 package, powered by the popular Briggs LO206 power plant. This program is designed to take aim at the grassroots level of karting and provide an opportunity for racers to get off the couch and in the seat for the most prestigious street race in the country.

RIGP Finish 3 wide-Ignite-MargayJoining the popular Ignite Senior class this year is the addition of the Ignite Junior class, the only opportunity for racers between the age of 12 and 15 to compete at this historic event. In both Ignite Junior and Senior, Ignite Shootout will feature a full field competitors wheeling Ignite K3 spec chassis manufactured by Margay Racing. These chassis will be equipped with Briggs & Stratton LO206 engines and the Bridgestone YDS tire compound. This combination is the perfect marriage between minimizing costs and maximizing competition.

“The Rock Island Grand Prix is one of the premier events in karting. We wanted to help open the door to a broader base of participants and allow karters to experience the event first hand, in a competitive class where the emphasis is on the driver. Our spec Ignite program is ideally suited for those who want to ‘Arrive & Drive’ or compete with their own Ignite karts,” said Margay Racing owner Keith Freber. “The RIGP is not only a great race, it’s a gathering…a pillar of the great karting events, its one not to be missed and the Ignite Shootout is the perfect opportunity for those from around the country and from outside of the country to ‘fly & drive’ and compete in this labor day weekend classic” continued Freber.

“After the success of last year’s event, we discussed the addition of a Junior Ignite class for 2016 with the RIGP team. Collectively, we felt the addition of Ignite Junior would be an ideal way for the 12-15 year old drivers to experience the competition and atmosphere that can only be experienced at Rock Island. We’re expecting a strong field of Junior drivers and are looking forward to crowning our first RIGP Ignite Junior Champion in 2016,” said Freber.

Margay Racing will provide full Arrive & Drive packages that will feature LO206 powered Ignite K3 chassis, Bridgestone YDS tires, racing fuel, tent space, catered lunches and a shared mechanic. Existing Ignite K3 owners are welcome to participate in the shootout, call 1.800.562.7429 for pricing and information. The Ignite Shootout package is the excuse you need to get in the seat for yourself and let your driving do the talking.
