EKN Constructors Championship – June 10

2016 program begins with Tony Kart remaining as top brand in North America

The 2016 karting season is nearing the halfway point with a busy first five months in the books. The many kart tracks across the United States and Canada are welcoming racers every weekend, enjoying the sport we all love. On the national scene, 22 events have been completed that count toward the eKartingNews.com Constructors Championship standings. This program was established to recognize those chassis brands that are finding the podium and finishing inside the top-five at the top-tier events on the season. Since 2011, Tony Kart has been the established leader and that trends continues as we release the first edition of the EKN CC standings.

Tony Kart logoTony Kart has recorded the best score in 14 of the events so far in 2016, recording the highest event total of the year. The worst position Tony Kart has finished is the third position twice (WKA Round 1, WKA Round 2). It’s advantage is less than last year, as the battle for second continues to be a close chase as it was last year.

Just 45 points separate second through fifth as Kosmic makes it a 1-2 OTK at the top of the EKN CC standings. The brand has scored in 19 of the events with the finale for the Challenge of the Americas as its best weekend total (42). Praga finished outside the top-five last year, and has already produced better results in 2016 with the work done by Praga North America, KartSport North America and Musgrave Racing Company. The chassis has been the top brand at two of the California ProKart Challenge events thus far, earning a high total of 54 at the SKUSA SpringNationals, just two off of Tony Kart. Top Kart and Merlin are right there. Top Kart has been the top chassis in all four WKA events, including a high of 52 at Daytona and the Manufacturers Cup Series race at GoPro Motorplex with 52 points each. Merlin Nation has the fourth-best score of the year, earning 60 at the United States Pro Kart Series opener at New Castle.

The top-five brands are the only chassis to earn the highest point total of the 22 events thus far. BirelART is at the top of the second half of the top-10 in sixth, with their best weekend at the Florida Winter Tour finale events for Rok and Rotax. CRG is next in line, earning its highest total at the California ProKart Challenge opener thanks to the recent spike in support by Nash Motorsportz. Benik is the only make that has earned points in the Cadet division, and currently ranks eighth overall earning the third highest total of the SKUSA Pro Tour SpringNationals. Sodi Kart is ninth, recording its best weekend at the second stop of the Challenge of the Americas with Dallas Karting Complex grabbing solid results in its 2016 campaign. Rounding out the top-10 is Intrepid, placing fifth at the SpringNationals behind a strong driver lineup with Champion Racing and 3G Kart Racing.
