Organisers of the G-Zero Championship Racing Series have today revealed the dates and locations for the first half of their inaugural 2016 series. Taking place on May 13 th and 14 th , at The International Night Market in Richmond is the first double header round of the 2016 season and will see all-electric zero-emissions karts battle “Under the Lights” at speed reaching 110 KpH for championship awarding points with thousands of spectators freely cheering them on.

The 600-meter circuit has been custom designed by series officials to demand the most from drivers and their battery powered karts. The City of Richmond is known for it’s heated passion for motorsports and provides a great first stop for the series at the region’s best attended night market.

“We are thrilled to have the G-Zero Championship Series host their races at the International Summer Night Market for the first time,” says Liza Cheung, organizer of ISNM, which is renowned for being one of Canada’s top night markets and offers complimentary admission. “We always try to look for new and exciting events to showcase to our visiting guests. The racing series is unique and a perfect fit for our venue and fans.”

The second event in the 2016 series moves from the track to the street, as drivers are challenged on the streets of New Westminster’s historic downtown, where drivers will prove their skills on a fast and one-of-a-kind circuit along Columbia St for the June 11th & 12th weekend. The half-kilometre circuit stands to break new territory in kart racing with a high speed snaking corners while also dropping 7 meters in elevation!

“We’re excited to host the first street-circuit in the G-Zero Championship series this June. We know our beautiful and historic downtown will provide an amazing venue for the first series of this kind in North America” says Jonathan Coté, Mayor of New Westminster.

“The Columbia St ePrix is the perfect street circuit to feature first in the series. This is the event where G-Zero Racing starts the revolution to battery electric motorsports. When compared to combustion karting, our Series has the speeds and challenges to attract worldwide attention in a manner that is less intrusive to the vibrant downtown of New Westminster, and clearly demonstrates the future of battery electric motorsports. The G-Zero Championship brings the thrills of high speed motorsports into the heart of a vibrant community on a truly unique circuit that will challenge teams and drivers in front of thousands of cheering fans,, which drivers will actually hear”. The heart pounding action will capture the imagination of those who dream of speed on a circuit featuring both high speed and technical sections.

“Battery-electric karting enables us to bring together grassroots motorsports and community events in a manner that showcases why karting is often considered the purest form of motorsports.” says Greg Webster, founder of the series.

July 15 th and 16 th drivers will have a chance at redemption as the series returns to the International Summer Night Market in Richmond for its third championship event of the season.

Stay tuned as future event dates are released. All events are free for spectators to attend. The G-Zero Championship Racing Series encourages attendees to consider all public transit options and minimize their carbon footprint. Space is still available to compete in the series and those interested are invited to www.gzeroracing.ca for more.
