Tru Tech Sweeps IAME X30 Classes at LAKC Opener
With the Southern California winter behind us the 2016 Los Angeles Kart Club season got underway February 14th at the CalSpeed Karing facility in Fontana, CA. Hot off its first TaG Senior SuperKarts! USA Super Nationals victory in November, Tru Tech Racing Engines has put a lot of work into fine tuning its TaG program for the 2016 season. The off season effort put forth by Blake Craig and the Tru Tech Racing Engines team has paid off with a sweep of the IAME X30 classes at the LAKC opener.
The new for 2016 class is IAME X30 Junior. Based on the same IAME X30 engine run by the Senior and Masters competitors, the Junior category runs a restricted exhaust header to limit power. Getting things started off were Junior rookies Ryan Schartau qualifying 2nd and Joseph Daniele 4th. Schartau would hold on to his 2nd position through the Heat race with Trey Brown moving from his 10th place qualifying position into 3rd and Daniele falling to 5th. Brown continued his push forward in the Main event contending for the top spot. On the final circuit Brown was able to make a pass to secure the victory with a photo finish at the checkered. Schartau contended early for the lead eventually fading back to finish on the podium in 3rd with Daniele just behind in 4th.
TaG Senior placed senior rookies against the veterans with a rookie getting the edge at the end. Nicky Hays showed he belongs in the Senior ranks posting the fasted time in qualifying with Billy Musgrave 4th and Carlee Taylor 5th. Taylor would get the best of the Heat race taking 2nd just ahead of Hays 3rd and Musgrave in 5th. The Main event belonged to Hays, after making an early pass Hays held onto the top spot to secure his first Senior victory. Making a rare start in the TaG category Musgrave battled for a podium finishing in 3rd.
TaG Masters is always a dog fight to the last lap, this weekend was nothing different. John Crow would lead the Tru Tech drivers qualifying 3rd with Bryan Bender 4th and Diego Pelosi 6th. Misfortune struck Crow early in the Heat removing him from the race, Bender and Pelosi would each advance their positions to finish 2nd and 3rd. Starting 11th, Crow made quick work taking the lead on lap 8. Crow would drive to victory over Pelosi in 2nd and Bender in 5th.
Tru Tech Racing Engines continues to support the growth of the PRD Fireball engine with LAKC. In Senior PRD Pilot Riley Dugan took the Main event win. In PRD Senior Drew Zeller took the Main event win.
