Going past the half way point of the 2014 Gearup Challenge season we are seeing many fantastic battles as the championships are taking shape. The effort shown by all of the competitors and teams are truly amazing and are creating some of the most epic on track battles we have seen since the inception of the series. Round #4 at F1 Boston will be the race that will indicate the movers and shakers of the 2014 season. With an absolutely awesome race track and the competition at an all time high, this is one round not to miss!!! A mid season review will give a small insight to what has been waged and what is at stake to be lost or gained.

Featuring the lightest and fastest Leopard class in the country the competition is bound to be incredible. Not short on talent it has been exciting to say the least with names such as Giessen, Boos, Fartuch, Bressan, Landi, McCusker, Budjoso and Sage Karam the fight is relentless and fierce. Round three at Oakland Valley Race Park was nothing short of exciting as the class reached a record number of entries for this season. Ryan Nash returning after sometime off showed the field he had lost nothing of his drive and talent with a great second place on the grid only one tenth off pole sitter Nick Landi who would prove to be the man to beat with an ultra consistent run throughout the days event. The Ikart team of Sage Karam and Mark Boos had a tough start to the weekend with sixth and seventh on the grid but managed to pull out a good result at the end with a second and third overall. As for the championship it is anyone’s game and we expect the fight to heat up between the top five Landi is on a real move forward and if he stays consistent he could be the man beat with only a few points separating him from leading the championship. Austin and John McCusker are always ultra quick and holding the 2nd and 4th positions in the championship are in very close reach of the top spot with a great result in Boston. Leading the points Boos has will surely not let this slip through his fingers easily as he will try to remain consistent, we are certain he realizes it will not be easy but knowing this young man he will give it his all! We just received confirmation that Michael Politis will return to the fight in F355 with Checkered Motorsport and PCR. Michael the 2012 F355 Champion is never to be taken lightly and we are very expecting to see him in the mix straight away. With a Formula 2000 test on the line the next three races should be ultra competitive and show us some of the most exciting racing anywhere.

Checkered Motorsports/PCR and their driving ace Chris Giumarra have been the tough to beat this season, looking for that perfect season they will surely try to continue their winning ways. In a recent interview 2013 Champion John DaCosta has made it clear he is undeterred in his drive for the 2014 title. DaCosta and Pignataro have been locked in and epic battle throughout the entire season only being separated by one point after three hard fought races. Pignataro and MMK are pushing forward very determined as they have also vowed to drive his to the top of the point standings. Round three seen many of the competitors have uncharacteristic mechanical issues that made the race very unpredictable but in the end very exciting. Joe Shoffeld was on point for the Oakland Valley race and we are certain this was not the last round we will see him in 2014. Maestri, Peterson, Gerstner and 2012 Champion Doug O’Haro are locked into a tight battle in the points and we are anticipating a great fight to the end. The Formula 125 has always been a great race with camaraderie that is unparalleled but not lacking on fierce competition. We are looking forward to a fabulous race in Boston as it is anyone’s game.

Compressed Air Equipment Formula Rotax
The newest class in the series has exceeded our expectations, not just in numbers but also with a very strong field of competitors . Boston should be a pleasant surprise as many of the top competition at the track utilize Rotax power plants. We have a good feeling the program could result as on the largest within a few years time. As for the round three Nick Landi was the top qualifier with a two tenth gap to Carson Kapica who took second spot with Billy Ogle lining up in third for race one. Race one ended with Kapica taking the top spot while Landi had a tough race encountering some mechanical issues. Landi proving very tough to beat for the two following rounds wound end the day second overall while Kapica took the overall win and Ogle rounding out the podium in third position. The 2013 Champion Billy Ogle has made it very apparent that 2014 is his so we are very excited see these very competitive pilots work it out amongst themselves.

Gearup-TaGAs we are seeing the popularity of single engine classes we are also seeing the emergence of this multi engine class as Jimmy Fatum, Michael Terkildsen and Brad Nyman and many others make the most of power and weight differences. Fatum has been known to be very competitive regardless of what class he contests and no different in Formula Tag as he is performing very well this season with his Vortex RokTT. With a strong performance at round three it was very tough for anyone to reel him in throughout the days event. But we are certain Nyman , Montilla and Terkildsen will not make it easy the remaining races.

RTR Racing Formula J
Formula J has been a real barn burner this season as the competitors are so close and fierce it is truly amazing to watch. Two time Champion Nolan Ruocco has been very consistent as we had expected but Julia Boos, Wojcik, Cangialosi and Vandersteur are surely showing everyone they have the speed to challenge the Formula J ace Ruocco. Leading the points he is still getting the job done but the the field is hot on his rear bumper. The last race seen Dario Cangialosi take pole position by two tenths over Ruocco and Jarett Belge in second and third starting position. Race one went to plan for Cangialosi with a P1 while race two seen him encounter a DNF with a mechanical issue. Having a fantastic final race of the day seen Cangialosi in a well deserved third podium position. Vandersteur has been on a very consistent run the past few races and no different at round three with a fabulous second place finish. This season the field is covered by tenths and a handful of points and it looks to be one of the tightest championship battles to date. We are certain to see Krawiec, Cannata, Peacock, Pellegrini and John Paul Southern on the top step in the coming races as they have been right there. We are ecstatic to see so many top notch competitors and look forward to the emergence of the field that are literally looking for nothing more than a tick of the watch.

Gearup-FRokVortex Formula Rok
We knew the Mini Rok engine was going to be good power plant for us but had no idea it was this user friendly. It will be a good rest of the year as the racing is turning out to be really great and entry numbers are going in the right direction. Justin White of Kartworks and Syfyan Waryah have been making the most of their program leading the points standings in 2014. If it continues this way trading wins each weekend it is anyone’s title. Rocco Tedd has been working hard to make up the few tenths he has been missing but if we knew this young man he will persevere and be on the front row in the coming races. Oldhafer has been working every angle making huge strides forward that could see the young gun challenging the pack very soon. Round four will see Amelia Cangialosi and Ryan Beerman debut their Rok packages, we are confident the fight at the front will be tough. We also look forward the return of Pierce Tetlow for round five in a few weeks time.

Syfyan Racing Formula S
The sportsman class has always had some of the best competition over the past five years and to no surprise as Amelia Cangialosi, Brian Tremper, Jack Manzari, Ryan Beerman and Syfyan Waryah have been clued to each other from round one. Last round the countless changes for the lead between Cangialosi and Tremper created a fantastic race as both teams utilizing the same Haase chassis the times were nearly identical. Waryah, Manzari and Beerman are right at the heels of the Haase duo and have had brilliant results that could see anyone at the top step at any given event. We look forward to seeing the battle commence at Pitts International Raceway on Aug 30th.

2014 started a new era for the Northeast shifters and that is separating the two classes mainly due to the large entry numbers but it also to create a fair racing environment for everyone. The split has worked well for the group while retaining the wow factor of huge fields as growth was substantial for the past three races. Points leader Josh Lane is always tough to beat as he has his DR/Fisher package tuned to perfection on most occasions. But that will not deter Paul Makarucha and John Gaydos as they are right on the heels of the points chase with Lane. With their determined effort and steady results earnings it will be a great fight to the end. With the emergence of the PCR pilots Kyle Smith, Robert and Andrew Budjoso it is turning out to be a fantastic race each and every given weekend. Sullivan, LaPorta, Noyes and Taska have been pushing every ounce out of performance from their machines and we are anticipating a real challenge for the front of the pack in the coming races!

Gearup-KZNESKS KZ
Not sure what the rules are in the rest of the country but it seems we don’t live by them as KZ is awesome with a huge field every weekend. The past four rounds have seen a number of different winners and some of the most exciting races anywhere. Standing starts with lights and thirty top notch drivers makes us feel like we are at and F1 event. Brandon Jarsocrak known for being a top contender in Tag took to shifting like a fish to water and now finds himself leading the points standings. Josh Lane also enjoying KZ won the second to last round at OVRP in a huge fight with Manglass. OVRP being a night race seen results with DiBella and Muminovic in 3rd and 4th. Round four at Shenandoah was a real high speed fight with Bernard Muminovic taking the first place over Alex Manglass in 2nd while Max DiBella dropping away with a mechanical issue early in the race. Tyler Gilbault was set for a great fight in Shenandoah with an awesome performance in qualifying setting the pole position. However having a mechanical issue in the prefinal cost the DR pilot a top result. We are absolutely convinced the rest of the season will be intense as all the racers going for the championship are pushing very hard for the win!
