Team News: Checkered Motorsports – USPKS South Bend Preview

Checkered Motorsports logoCheckered Motorsports will be returning for round two of the United States Pro Kart Series at Michiana Raceway Park located in North Liberty, Indiana. The team’s busy racing schedule has paid off as they have already recorded multiple wins and podium finishes in the 2014 season.  Ten drivers are set to rock the black and yellow colors of the PCR karts.

The Sportsman category will be led by John Paul Southern Jr.  The young driver has already built an impressive 2014 resume scoring multiple victories and podium finishes in the national karting scene.  Competing in both Yamaha 100 Cadet and Mini-Rok 60 Cadet, Southern Jr. looks to keep the momentum rolling.  Ian Hornish will be alongside John Paul and has seen great improvements this year winning numerous times at the club and regional level. The young 11 year old is making his debut in the series and looks to put his PCR kart up front in the competitive Yamaha 100 Cadet class.

The Junior category is fielded with a core group of drivers consisting of Sasha Brun-Wibaux, Evan Fritts, Nick Luedeke, Nolan Ruocco, Savannah Fitzgerald and Ryan Norberg.  Fritts, Luedeke and Fitzgerald will be fielding there PCR Super Strillo chassis in the Yamaha 100 Junior class.  Luedeke will be performing double duty as he is also set to compete in Leopard 125 Junior.  Florida drivers Brun-Wibaux and Norberg are both coming off solid runs in the ROK Cup series at Jacksonville, in which Norberg sat on the final step of the podium. The Florida duo look for better results this upcoming weekend.   Nolan Ruocco is coming into the weekend with a disadvantage as he will not be able to practice due to school commitments, but has seen the MRP circuit before. Ruocco is coming off a win at round three of The F Series at Oakland Valley Race Park and hopes to keep the momentum rolling.

Teammates AJ Myers and Andrew Bujdoso are both set to run in the competitive Leopard 125 Pro Class. Round one of the USPKS series saw AJ Myers clinch the pole position, but luck would not go his way in the main event where he record only a 12th place finish.  Andrew Bujdoso will be a contender as well as the young 16 year old will be fielding his PCR kart with a Woltjer prepped engine.

In the Masters division Francois Brun-Wibaux is returning and after standing on the podium both days at the first round of the United States Pro Kart Series, Francois intends to bring back more hardware. The Florida pilot has been keeping his race craft up to par while competing in the competitive ROK Cup Series.  He is eager return to the South Bend facility as his last visit was back in 2011.

“This is a talented and well prepared group of drivers that we have,” explained Checkered Motorsports owner Csaba Bujdoso.  “The team has been working hard at the shop to ensure optimal performance at the track.  We are glad to be a part of such a well ran series and to have such great drivers.”
