Friday, March 21 is the final day for nominations for the 2014 Dan Wheldon / FWT Karting Ambassador Award.

The purpose of this annual award is two-fold. First, to honor the memory of Dan Wheldon. Second, to inspire others to be aware of and adopt the personal attributes that made Dan an outstanding father, racer and friend, and a strong and positive image for the karting community.

This award is presented annually to the FWT participant who best represents karting with a fiercely competitive spirit, a helpful and positive attitude and a professional image.

The wording of the award is simple but specific. With so many potentially deserving recipients it has to be.

You will note that eligibility for the award requires the nominee to be an FWT PARTICIPANT.  FKP’s Bill Wright: “I’ve said since day one that we are only as good as the people racing with us. Although drivers are the most visible part of the winning equation, success in karting requires all of us; drivers, parents, tuners, mechanics, coaches, team managers, business owners, importers, track owners and yes, even event promoters. ”

Nominations must be submitted to live@floridawintertour.com . Nominations should include the reasons the nominee is deserving of the award. Nominees will be evaluated by the Formula Kart Productions staff based on their merits relative to the criteria for the award.

The 2014 award will be presented during the lunch break on Sunday March 23rd during the FWT RMC. The award recipient will have their name engraved on a plaque and placed on a perpetual trophy that will be displayed at FWT events. In addition, they will receive a framed certificate and a copy of the Michael Voorhees photo book “Dan Wheldon Lion Heart”, created by Michael and Dan for Dan’s parents and fans.

Former Award Recipients include Jim Russell Jr. in 2012 and Alan Rudolph in 2013.

Nominations should be sent to live@floridawintertour.com

The Florida Winter Tour is one of the world’s largest, longest running and most geographically diverse kart racing programs. In 2013 the 15th annual FWT featured over 340 drivers from 26 countries and all six karting continents, and for the sixth consecutive year was the world’s largest official Rotax Max Challenge series.
