Team Koene USA Looks to Carry Momentum into Next Rounds of Florida Winter Tour
Drivers will see action during Formula Kart and Rotax weekends of competition
After very successful opening rounds to the annual Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour, Team Koene USA is primed and ready for rounds three and four. Traveling north from Homestead Karting to the Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, Florida, Team Koene USA drivers will look to continue their winning ways. With seven podiums, five pole positions and two main event victories in the opening two weekends, Team Koene USA has exploded onto the Florida Winter Tour scene and has become a threat for victory in each and every division.
TaG Junior driver Roman DeAngelis started his campaign off with a pair of pole positions and podium results and is the current point leader in the class. Following in his footsteps in TaG Cadet, Michael d’Orlando dominated the weekend with three heat race wins, one pole position and two main event victories and tops the points in his respective class. When Michael wasn’t at the front of the field, younger brother Nicholas would take the point scoring a pole position, heat race win and two second place finishes to have his best career Florida Winter Tour results ever.
Jarrett Voorhies joined DeAngelis in the TaG Junior category and showed constant improvement over the weekend. Honing his racecraft and gaining experience with each passing lap, Voorhies would lead laps in the heat race, his first career laps led at the FWT. All four pilots will be back in action this coming weekend during Formula Kart action at Ocala Gran Prix.
The following weekend will see DeAngelis and the d’Orlandos return to action, this time trading in their TaG packages for Rotax powered Tony Karts. DeAngelis will see action in the tough Rotax Junior field where he looks to improve on his results from Homestead. Michael and Nicholas d’Orlando will enter the stout Rotax Mini Max ranks as they look to fight for race wins and podium results in one of the most competitive classes on the tour.
“It was a good start to our 2014 season,” expressed Team Principal and point man behind Team Koene USA. “The success comes from everyone under the tent and wouldn’t be possible without the support of Martijn Koene, Richard Hergink, Tony Loniewski and Adam Johnson. We all put great effort into the program and work hard for the results.”
On track February 6-9 for the Formula Kart weekend, Thursday and Friday will see practice sessions for Team Koene USA drivers before wheel-to-wheel action commences on Saturday morning. With two separate race days, qualifying and prefinal results will set the grid for the day’s main events. The following week, Team Koene USA drivers will be on track beginning Wednesday morning for practice with qualify taking place Friday afternoon before prefinals and finals get started on Saturday and Sunday.
