Team News: Checkered Motorsports – WKA Manufacturers Cup Series Daytona KartWeek Report

Checkered Motorsports logoWith the 2014 season officially underway, Checkered Motorsports had an outstanding performance to end the 2013 season at Daytona International Speedway for the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series.  Hosting a total of five pilots, the team swept the sportsman field during Sunday’s action while tallying up a total of four victories, three poles, and 11 podiums throughout the weekend.

John Paul Southern Jr. competed in the sportsman division working alongside multi champion Robert Bujdoso.  The two swept Sunday’s action where the young upcoming star won Komet Sportsman, Yamaha Sportsman, and Cadet Sportsman all over 3 seconds.  Between a wet or dry track, the team had the PCR chassis dialed in.  Monday’s performance was no different as the young driver claimed two poles in Yamaha Sportsman and Komet Sportsman.  Unfortunately, in Cadet he would have to start in the back due to an engine issue occurring forcing the team to change engines.  Starting in the 17th spot in Cadet Sportsman, the young pilot took no time to drive through the field and finished third while claiming fastest lap of the race.  The main event was thriller as Southern Jr. led the whole race, but made a crucial mistake in the last lap by over protecting the inside line in the last corner crossing the line in second.  In Komet Sportsman the PCR chassis and Woltjer prepped engines were the perfect combination as he took the pre-final win and a claiming another victory.  Unfortunately, in Yamaha Sportsman the officials dictated the outcome of the event where Southern Jr. was penalized three positions after winning the main event.

In Parilla and TaG Senior the Andrew Bujdoso brought the team some hardware claiming 3 podiums for the weekend.  In TaG Senior the 16 year old had a pair of podium finishes finishing fifth and fourth while earning him the fastest lap of the race on Monday’s action.  The Parilla class fielded a total of 33 karts.  Starting in the 15th spot Bujdoso maneuvered his way through the field and finished the pre-final in fifth.   The 14 lap main event Bujdoso demonstrated great race craft where he held onto the fourth spot.

Onboard the PCR Super Strillo chassis was Florida pilot Ryan Norberg.  It took no time for tuner Csaba Bujdoso and Ryan Norberg to put the PCR up front as the two of them worked with one another to finish second and fifth in Yamaha Jr. Can.

The daughter father duo had Sasha Brun-Wibaux competing in Parilla Junior category and Francois Brun-Wibaux in TaG Masters.  Jim Conlin working alongside the two drivers ensured a quick PCR kart all throughout the weekend.  Francois during Monday’s main event comes home shy from the podium spot finishing sixth.  Sasha making only her second appearance to the unique circuit ran as high as 8th until on track incidents forced her to fall back to 12th.

Csaba Bujdoso states, “This weekend was a phenomenal weekend for all of our drivers.  Dry or wet the PCR chassis was the kart to beat.  I’d like to thank Daniel Woltjer for his continuous support and consistently giving the team an upper hand on their competitors.  In addition to Woltjer Racing Engines support, Derek Fitzgerald from Zerro-Error Racing has provided high quality karting parts and accessories for all drivers”

Checkered Motorsports as the main importers for PCR Karts will be contesting in the Florida Winter Tour, WKA Manufacturers Cup Series, F-Series GearUp Challenge, United States Pro Kart Series, and the Pitt Race Karting Series.  Transportation, Tech Support, and Arrive and Drive opportunities are available.
