Leading Edge Motorsports Ready for Las Vegas with Talented Driver Roster

Kinnear, Peterson and McAlister to lead LEM’s assault on SKUSA SuperNationals XVII

LeadingEdgeNC_logoGreg Bell’s Leading Edge Motorsports squad will join the best of the best in just two weeks time when they all head for the 17th annual Superkarts! USA SuperNationals, which will be held just outside the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino from November 20-24. The Northern California-based operation has been a mainstay at the annual event in Las Vegas, as team owner Bell has helped to guide a number of drivers to pole positions, victories and season-ending championships at the biggest karting event in North America. In 2013, LEM’s focus remained on fielding a strong team on the SKUSA Pro Tour and the California ProKart Challenge, while Bell also assisted a number of drivers around the country in assorted high-profile events under his new SuperTuners Inc. banner. This year’s SuperNationals driver roster is slightly smaller in size, which will help Bell keep in touch with what his racers are experiencing during one of the toughest events in which to compete.

With the help of the drivers’ families and their skilled mechanics, prepping fast karts and scoring victories are on the mind for Leading Edge Motorsports heading to Las Vegas. Returning to the LEM tent is S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto Pro Tour championship leader Ryan Kinnear. The Scottish driver, who resides in Texas, stood atop the podium at the most recent round of the Pro Tour when the series visited Colorado for the SummerNationals. Kinnear has been a threat all season as he brought back two podium finishes from the SpringNationals in Tucson, as well as capturing the Texas ProKart Challenge S2 championship last month. At the 2012 version of the SuperNationals, Kinnear qualified seventh and drove to a very impressive third place finish on SuperSunday.

Joining Kinnear in S2 will be Mariana Ramirez, who comes to the SuperNationals after recording her best finish of the Pro Tour. In Grand Junction, she just missed out on a top-10 result with a 13th place finish on Sunday in Round 4 of the series. Ramirez is looking to improve on her top-20 finishing position in last year’s SuperNationals, which saw her finish the main event in 17th place. The third member of Leading Edge Motorsports’ S2 roster is Jack Freese. Coming off a great weekend at the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix that saw Freese run in the top-10 the entire weekend, Jack is adjusting well after making the jump to Stock Moto just one year ago. This year, the goal for the young LEM driver is to again make the main event and earn the best finish possible while gaining tons of experience.

In the wildly popular and extremely competitive TaG Senior field, Jess Peterson and Julien Fong will represent the Leading Edge squad. Peterson enters the fall classic as one of the most experienced racers in the field, coming off an up-and-down trip at the SummerNationals in July. After decimating the competition at the SummerNationals tune-up race in Grand Junction, it was a rough go of things two weeks later at the Pro Tour event. Highly motivated, Peterson has been preparing very hard, training and testing in an effort to stand on the podium at SuperSunday. The SuperNationals always boasts a unique international flavor, and this year one of those drivers will be Fong, from Singapore. Bell continues a strong relationship with Gordy Finlayson of GFR Engines out of the UK, and Fong will represent both entities during the SuperNationals event. Fong enters the SuperNats as the first Singapore native to win the Asia Pacific Championship in CIK-FIA competition. Fong will boost the already ultra-competitive nature of the TaG senior field to another level as he makes his SuperNationals debut.

Competing in S4 Masters Stock Moto class for Leading Edge Motorsports is karting veteran and shifter hot shoe Trevor McAlister. It’s been a partial season for McAlister this year, but he most recently showed the speed to compete for the SuperNationals win at the Streets of Lancaster GP in September. McAlister showed very well last year at the SuperNationals, qualifying fourth on Friday en route to winning two of his three heat races along with a runner-up in the other. His efforts led to a runner-up finish and his best result at the SuperNationals. Running again aboard a Praga factory chassis with full LEM support, McAlister and Bell are going into Vegas with only victory on their minds.
