Driver News: Olivier Bellanger – Florida Karting Championship Series Report
K1 Racegear driver closes racing season with state championship title
K1 RaceGear sponsored driver Olivier Bellanger claims his third Florida State Championship title, ending the 2013 racing season on a positive tone despite many hurdles along the way.
The young pilot did not waste time getting acclimated to the fiercely competitive Junior classes in his rookie year, claiming the title in Rotax Junior, a Vice-Champion honor in Shifter Junior and a fifth place in Tag Junior. Bellanger’s terrific consistency and continued progress earned him an impressive accumulation of good results, amassing 18 top 5 finishes and 13 podiums out of 24 races entered.
When K1 caught-up with its driver after his last race of the season, the up and coming racer was reflecting on his achievements and what’s to come. “Yes, we ended-up having a decent season and we managed to fight at the top in most races I competed in. I am proud to say that we have achieved these results despite racing on a tiny budget and a pretty average kart and engine package. I had to push very hard to fight with the top drivers in Junior and I could not have done so without the incredible help and support of everyone under the OGP tent, assisting my dad making the best of our kart. We had some ups and downs, bad luck and good luck at times but we made the best of it. I crashed and totaled my primary chassis and had to race on my spare one which is bent pretty good, it made it difficult the week of the Rotax Grand Nationals but I was able to always race forward, even with a kart that would not turn… All these challenges motivate me to perform at my best all the time, and it prepares me to maximize my resources no matter what. I am confident that the day we can race on a good package I will be challenging for the race win”, explained Olivier.
Bellanger continued with: “Right now my focus is on finding sponsorship for the Rotax Pan-American Challenge in New-Orleans in October and the SKUSA SuperNationals in Shifter Junior in Las Vegas in November. We are talking to various local companies and begging friends and family for support. Hopefully something will come out of it. I am so grateful for all the support I have received so far, I want to thank my parents and friends and family, K1 RaceGear for their continued support, the awesome OGP Team and all the great guys that work under the tent and at the track. And most of all, my teammates and friends with whom I race with for always pushing me and making me a better driver.”
