Driver News: Arie Zimmermann Goes from Karts to Cars in Same Weekend
Arie Zimmermann finished on the podium in his Junior Rotax then hops into a Formula Renault an hour later all located within 100 yards of each other at CalSpeed and Auto Club Speedway.
Arie was excited to debut his new Si-12 lightweight helmet from his new sponsor HJC. It came at a good time as the organizers decided to add four laps to the race making the main more demanding on the drivers. In addition Arie was sporting his new CIK/FIA sublimated suit from K1 RaceGear. With both anticipation and excitement, Arie hit the track clocking in his fastest times almost immediately. In fact he would set his personal best times in both qualifying and the race by just a couple of hundredths apart. Arie qualified a very respectful third and maintained this position for the race. “I had a good start and a very uneventful race but I would have liked to challenge for the win. I will get them next race” Arie said after the race. Little did Arie know that his excitement was ready to begin.
As Arie and the team left the kart track they stopped by to see an old friend, Lu Bergandi, running the AllenBergRacingSchool at Auto Club Speedway. After talking for a few minutes, Lu offered Arie an opportunity to drive one of the school cars. These machines are purpose built Tatuus Renault Formula 1600’s. After some nervous questions Arie was ready for the briefing. Remember Arie is only 13 years old and has never driving a “real race car” yet alone a manual transmission vehicle of any type. Needless to say Arie thoroughly enjoyed the experience and is very grateful to Lu and the entire AllenBergRacingSchool staff for allowing him to drive.
Arie Zimmermann, a high school freshman, has an aim to earn an engineering degree. He has been karting for eight years and is looking to step up into the top ranks of karting in the U.S. Arie has sponsorship opportunities available. Arie is currently being supported by K1 RaceGear, CRG USA, Seckence Surf Boards and Apparel, Wild Donkey Clothing, Motul, and HJC Helmets.
