Route 66 Sprint Series to Offer $1500 Cash Purse Bestway Drywall Yamaha Sportsman Smackdown in Dousman
The Russell Karting Specialties/L & T Manufacturing Route 66 Sprint Series presented by Bridgestone/Margay and Grand Products is holding a special money race for the Yamaha Sportsman class on Saturday evening, July 27 at Briggs & Stratton Raceway Park – home of the Badger Kart Club – in Dousman Wisconsin. The first annual Yamaha Sportsman Smackdown sponsored by Bestway Drywall will award $1500 in cash along with a set of Bridgestone YLC tires. Special trophies will also be awarded to the top three finishers. This event is paired up with round three of the Route 66 Sprint series based in the Mid-West. This series has averaged 270 entries at the first two events this year. Badger Kart Club is the host track for round three and the event sponsor is Merlin Racing Karts.
The Yamaha Sportsman Smackdown event qualifying and race will take place after completion of the regular Saturday Route 66 Series class races. The race is open to all Yamaha Sportsman Drivers ages 8 to 12 with WKA rules and a class weight of 255 lbs. The class will utilize the RLV 7548 SSX spec can. The spec tire will be the Bridgestone YLC compound. Sunoco 110 spec fuel will be available for sale at the track. All competitors’ engines should be sealed by the series tech man prior to qualifying. NEW TIRES ARE NOT REQUIRED to race in the Yamaha Sportsman Smackdown, however the tires must have been used in the Sportsman I class ran earlier in the day and registered as new tires for that race.
The Yamaha Sportsman Smackdown format will consist of a 10 minute open qualifying session where each entrant’s best timed lap will be used to set the lineup for the 20 lap final. The fast qualifier will win a set of Bridgestone YLC tires. After a short break and driver introductions, the 20 lap Yamaha Sportsman Smackdown will begin. Payout for the top five is 1st – $500, 2nd – $350, 3rd – $250, 4th – $200, 5th – $100. The last running kart in the field will also receive $100.00.
After the first two rounds of the Route 66 Series, class point battles are shaping up.
The best four of five events will count toward final season points with bonus points being awarded for competing in all five events and bonus points awarded for competing in the final round at Mid-State Raceway.
The entry fee for the Yamaha Sportsman Smackdown is $75.00. Pre-entry fees for the regular Route 66 Series classes are $65 if entered prior to July 9. Entry fee at the track is $85 per class. Pre-entry forms are available on the series web site, http://www.Route66KartRacing.com and should be post-marked by July 8th to receive the pre-entry discount.
