The karting community is set to welcome a new and unique regional program to the North American market as the Rotax Can-Am ProKart Challenge programs debuts May 17-19 at the Greg Moore Raceway in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Mirroring the famous Can-Am Challenge Cup professional car series that ran in 1970s and 1980s, the karting Can-Am series will put the best in western Canada and the United States together in a four event championship. The Rotax Max Challenge and Superkarts! USA sanctioned series is putting together the final touches for the inaugural event, including the registration process.

Registration has opened at http://www.rotaxcanamprokartchallenge.com in the Events section of the website. There, competitors can open up the easy to use registration PDF form. Once you fill out the form, you can send directly to the Can-Am staff via email and print a copy for your records. The third step includes a payment page, to ensure your entry is complete. For more information, visit the following link for step-by-step process (http://www.rotaxcanamprokartchallenge.com/registration.htm). Pre-entry period will last until May 10. After that, racers will have to wait until registration opens at the track to enter the inaugural Can-Am event. Series officials would also like to remind racers membership within WKA (U.S. Rotax Max Challenge members) or ASN Canada (Rotax Max Challenge Canada) for Rotax racers and Superkarts! USA for shifterkart drivers is required. Membership forms will be available at the track or you can find them on the Can-Am web page.

One of the great situations with the Can-Am program is the combination of the Rotax Max Challenge and Superkarts! USA organizations running under one banner. The Rotax Max Challenge portion of the Can-Am will follow the seven categories you can find at Rotax events in the United States or Canadian and even around the world. The Can-Am Rotax Max Challenge is dedicated to provide the western half of North America with a traveling series, welcoming the best drivers from the two countries together, to provide the most competitive championship possible. Those competing in the Senior Max, DD2, DD2 Masters and Junior Max categories will have a chance to secure a ticket to the Rotax Grand Finals, held this year in New Orleans and will be the first time the event will be held within the United States. The Can-Am Rotax Max Challenge has also garnered a total of four tickets for racers to compete in the Micro & Mini Max Invitational that will be contested along side the Grand Finals at the NOLA Motorsports Park in November. The top two drivers in the Mini Max and Micro Max championship standings will be awarded a ticket to compete in the first-ever event.

The Can-Am program has also partnered with the Superkarts! USA to help rebuild what was once a strong presence in the area during the beginning years of the organization. The opening rounds of the Can-Am series will serve as the first SKUSA-sanctioned event in Canada for the first time in over 10 years. All five of the SKUSA Stock Moto categories will be offered throughout the series (S1, S2, S3, S4, S5), with racers able to take advantage of the perks racing a SKUSA ProKart Challenge program. Those racers who follow the entire Can-Am ProKart Challenge will enjoy the priority pre-registration program for the SKUSA SuperNationals XVII in Las Vegas, giving those SKUSA the first right to enter their respective classes. Champions from the Can-Am PKC will also be awarded a guaranteed starting spot in their respective class on SuperSunday in Las Vegas (class must average five racers for the year in order to receive ticket). Please note that Superkarts! USA categories will compete in a Friday-Saturday format, with only one round of racing for the Chilliwack weekend. The double round format will continue at the second stop on the Can-Am schedule.

The staff assembled for the Rotax Can-Am ProKart Challenge welcomes many familiar faces and respected officials within the industry. Nichole Wimsett is handling the behind the scenes work as Race Administrator; Chris Egger will handle the on-track duties as Race Director, with assistance from Tim Hannen of OVRP. Don Mooremiester has been named as the series Tech Director and MAXSpeed’s Josh Smith will be on hand to assist with during the weekend’s events. The Can-Am program is currently signing up 2013 series partners, with a solid group already on board, including CRG West, Wicked Fabrication, Neliton Race Concepts, Black Flag Racing and Rolison Performance Group.
