Team News: Checkered Motorsports – WKA Kershaw Preview
Checkered Motorsports will be traveling down south for the Zoom Zoom Nationals held by WKA at Carolina Motorsports Park. After acquiring the import rights of the PCR product, this marks the team’s first WKA event under their new role. Checkered Motorsports is no stranger to the facility as they have claimed multiple podiums and victories in the past.
After a stunning performance at the WKA Daytona KartWeek back in late December, J.P. Southern Jr. looks to keep his momentum with strong results in Cadet Sportsman, Yamaha Sportsman, and Komet Sportsman. During the winter months, the young pilot kept his race craft abilities in tact by competing in the Florida Winter Tour where he displayed fast pace. The up-and-coming driver will be powered under Woltjer Racing Engines in two of the three classes. Savannah Fitzgerald is making her first appearance in the facility. Utilizing her PCR chassis in Yamaha Sportsman and Cadet Sportsman, she looks forward getting back behind the wheel.
The Tag field will consist of Andrew Bujdoso and Oliver Scigliano. Both drivers will utilize their Iame powered Woltjer engines in the TaG and Parilla Class. Bujdoso has seen success at Carolina Motorsports Park where he finished second back in 2011. Scigliano on the other hand has yet to maneuver through the 17 corners of Carolina Motorsports Park. The rookies showed success at WKA Daytona KartWeek and look to repeat that performance this weekend.
Competing in TaG Master is veteran Tom Gerstner. This marks Gerstner’s third visit to the facility, and anticipates posting quick times early on.
Checkered Motorsports Csaba Bujdoso commented, “I’m excited with the drivers that we have for this weekend. We have seen much success in the past at this track, and look to bring back some hardware back home. Acquiring the PCR import rights was a big step for the team, and were going full force on all WKA events”
The team will be contesting in the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series, Great Lakes Sprint Series, USPKC Series, SKUSA Supernats, and the Pittsburgh International Race Complex. Tech support, transportation, and arrive and drive opportunities are available.
