Driver News: Bobby Legate Returns to Shifters After Three Year Layoff

Following a three year sabbatical, two time ProKart Challenge shifter champion Bobby Legate returned to shifter kart racing this past weekend with the LAKC race at CalSpeed in Fontana, CA. It doesn’t look like the young driver has missed a beat. Piloting his Hergesheimer Racing Gruppe/Rainbow Sandals sponsored CRG, DDR powered Honda, he qualified P2 out of 26 entries behind the 2012 SKUSA S2 SuperNationals winner Billy Musgrave. Starting off-pole in the pre-main race, Bobby and Billy paced each other lap for lap with Billy finishing a mere 1.2 seconds ahead of Bobby. Once again starting off-pole in the main, Bobby and Billy traded fast lap times for the 16 lap main. Bobby finished 2.1 seconds behind the S2 winner and over 6 seconds ahead of the 3rd place driver. Mike Robbins of Select Shifter was instrumental in tuning the CRG chassis and Darcy Decoste of Darcy Decoste Racing Engines provided expert motor tuning.
