Series News: F-Series presents the 2013 Gearup Challenge

A young no nonsense karting program run by racers for racers! The Gearup Challenge promoted by the F-Series is coming into its fourth year of competition and growing at a steady and furious pace. The program has doubled it’s entry list since the first season and promises to keep going in that direction for 2013. The format and class structure is designed with one objective, to ready the young racers of today for a racing career in the future.

The inception of the series came from a single class that boosted an extremely large group of racers on a club level. The first year had just one event in Oct. 2010 with huge success boosting thirty nine entries in a single class at the famous Old Bridge Township Raceway Park . The race weekend included a day of practice with the race day having two groups of qualifying and a twenty lap feature and a one hour two man endurance race. Fabulous awards were given for the feature and endurance racers plus the overall days most consistent participant. The class promoter Marco Oldhafer felt it was time that the F125 experience was taken to the next level with a multi track championship. The second year 2011 seen a more traditional format for the race series with qualifying two heats and a final. Also the class structure increased to a three class program adding a Senior and Junior Yamaha division. The series visited two tracks for three races with a fantastic prize package to the champions. With huge support from sponsors and race teams the series took on a new level for 2012. The program grew to five events at four different venues offering the competitors a chance of a phenomenal prize package from the title sponsor Gearup. 2012 F-Series racers were not just battling to win an illustrious championship but to receive a round trip all expenses paid for two to attend 16th annual SKUSA SuperNationals in Las Vegas.

The F-Series class structure is very aggressive moving junior drivers to a high level of performance early to familiarize our youth with the level of professional competition. The 8 to 12 youth program Formula S has used Yamaha and a Comer K80 engine combination for the past two years with entries reaching over twenty competitors. Our newest class Formula Junior (Leopard & Rotax) implemented in 2012 has been a huge success offering 12 to 15 year old juniors a program to experience the natural progression of the international karting scene. Offering three senior classes with the emphasis on single or limited engine formats. Two Iame Leopard classes offer the F-Series competitors a different weight combination to fit most racers in karting today. The F125 continues to be one of the most popular classes of the series with entries reaching over twenty five competitors almost every race this past season. The lightweight F355 has attracted some attention with some the fastest in the business. Just to name a few from this past season Mike Giessen, Arie Ouimet, Mike Politis, Chris Keller, John McCusker, Kyle Smith, Garrett & Jake Johnston and not to leave out the ultra fast trio of ladies Amber Friedberg, Natalia Mayo and Haley Kaminski. The Yamaha based F100 will make way for the Formula Tag in 2013. The Tag class will use a limited number of tag engines with the intention to create a fair and accurate multi engine class. The F-Series does not offer a shifter program but is very excited to announce the Northeast Shifter Kart Series will partner with the F-Series to create a six class program that will complete a top shelf karting program for 2013. The detailed class structure and event details are listed on f1series.com

The upcoming season is proving to be very promising with Gearup Inc. retaining the title sponsorship and many long standing sponsors opting to stay on board for 2013. MG Tires of Brazil has vowed to support the series to keep a stable and fair tire platform for the series. The strong combined effort between the F-Series and Shifter Kart Series ensures the events to be like no other in the Northeastern part of the US. The program will extend to six events for the upcoming season going to many of the signature race tracks throughout the region. The program will retain their current format that will allow for extra track time during practice and the racing portion of the event. The F-Series management is currently working on prizes and special programs that will be announced shortly on their website.
