Mike Manning Karting MMK logoTeam Mike Manning Karting (MMK) will be making their official debut of the 2013 season at the opening round of Pro Kart Challenge California February 1-2, hosted at ButtonwillowRacewayPark.

Team MMK is proud to announce a stacked team of eight diverse drivers who will be competing in both the TAG Senior and TAG Masters divisions.

Starting with the TAG Masters division, we are pleased to have under our tent drivers Tom Gerstner, Jim Elias, Steve Brackett, Will Jadiker, Kevin Manning, and Billy Cleavelin. Newcomer Gerstner is traveling all the way from New York to participate in Team MMK’s official arrive and drive program. Elias will be running an MMK-powered Leopard CRG package, while Brackett, Jadiker, and Cleavelin will all be running MMK-powered Motori 7 CRG powerplants. Gerstner and Kevin Manning will also be on CRG’s, but running MMK-powered Rok TT engines.

When asked about the upcoming event, Cleavelin expressed, “The 2013 Pro Kart Challenge season is set to step it up again, the level of competition and class participation has increased, the venues are classics, and I know my fellow competitors will be ready for racing. I can’t wait!”

In the TAG Senior division, we are very excited to be running driver Jordan Robertson, 2012 LAKC 4th place PRD Sr. Champion. When asked about the upcoming event, Robertson expressed, “I am looking forward to my first season in TAG Sr. and Pro Kart Challenge California with Team MMK.” Robertson will be competing on a MMK-powered Leopard Tony Kart package.

In addition to Robertson, Team MMK-New York has stepped up to the plate to challenge the West Coast after the success they had at the opening round of WKA Manufacturer’s Cup last month. 13-time WKA Grand National Winner Mike Giessen, of Deer Park, New York, will be representing Team MMK for this exciting season opener. “I’ve never been so excited and confident as a driver with the equipment and people surrounding this effort.  Mike Manning’s ability to provide me the power to win was shown with our win in Daytona, and I am looking to reproduce nothing less than a win at Buttonwillow,” expressed Giessen. Giessen will also be running a Tony Kart with an MMK-powered Motori 7.

Team MMK would also like to announce a new concept they would like to implement for the 2013 season, and seasons to come. Driver Billy Cleavelin, based on his outstanding resume, experience, and role-model persona, has been nominated as the 2013 MMK Team Captain. Cleavelin is a multi-IKF and WKA National Champion who most recently won back-to-back SKUSA Supernational titles in the TAG Masters division in 2008 and 2009, in addition to taking home the 2012 championship in the Pro Kart Challenge Series. Cleavelin will be a leader to our drivers by which they can go to him for advice regarding all aspects of kart preparation, tuning, and driving. This is an effort to help develop and teach our drivers as we continue to achieve our goals of winning and making podiums, like we have been for the past 33 years. Team MMK is honored to present this title to Cleavelin, and looks forward to making development progress throughout the season to prepare for our most revered event, the SKUSA Supernationals in November.
